Learn how to make an ingame spray with transparency for the half-life engine.

1

a. First thing you need to pick the dimensions of your image. The chart above can be helpful.

b. When picking dimensions the total resolution (e.g. 112x96) needs to be less than 10752. So for example:

112x96=10752 which is ok but 112x112=12544 which is too big for a spray.

2

a. For the example spray I'm going to make I'm going to use the dimensions 96x96.

b. When you go to File>New... in photoshop, fill the box out like this, then hit ok.

3

a. I'm just going to do something simple for my image, a letter with some layer styles on it.

b. So make whatever shape you want, make it about the size of your image.

c.Go to Layer>Layer Style> to bring up the menu of layer styles. Apply the following styles:

-your image should look something like this:

4

a. Now go to Image>Mode>Indexed Color...

click "ok" when it asks "Merge Layers"

use these settings

b. Now go to Image>Mode>Color Table...

Click on the last square, When the color prompt comes up, choose pure blue (0,0,255)

c. Now go to File>Save As...

You can close Photoshop now, Open up the file in Wally

5

a. In Wally go to Wizard>HL Color Decal...

b. Navigate to your .bmp, then hit "ok"

c. Next go to File>Save As...

-Save the file as "tempdecal.wad"

-Save the file to:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\youremail@email.com\gamedir\game\

for example:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\youremail@email.com\half-life\valve\

be sure NOT to go into multiplayer options or it will erase your tempdecal.wad and you will need to reinstall the spray.

Here's what the Image looks like ingame
