- I struggled with how to solve this problem for a long time, then I discovered the solution I'd been looking for. Layer effects win's again. This effect goes good with just about anything.

-We are starting out with the texture from my Basic Metal tutorial. You can start from this image, complete that tutorial or use your own background

-To start out I wanted to give this texture a little flavor. So I turned to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation...or Ctrl + U

-You can make it any color you want, but be sparing with the saturation, its easy to add too much and make it look really tacky.

-Next on a new layer add your text, I'm using the classic "Dawn of Design". Make sure the text is black.

-Apply the following layer styles to your text layer:

(Layer>Layer Styles>)

-Go back to your metal layer and go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects...

-Using these settings. Just about everything looks better under this filter, but it's not a toy.

-And you are done.
