Apply these layer styles to the border layer

-Now use the Magic Wand tool and click somewhere outside the "border".

-Then go to Select>Modify>Expand...

and expand it 5 pixels.

-Next click on the background layer and clear the selection, then hit ctrl + D to deselect.

-After you clear the background make a new layer, make sure its on the very bottom (Ctrl + Shift + [ ). I chose to make it a light grey color.

-For the next part you will need to download a pattern from me. You can get it here.

-Save the vugrid.pat to \Adobe\Photoshop CS\Presets\Patterns (Path may vary based on version of photoshop)

-Now go back into photoshop and make a new layer, name it vugrid

-Make a selection like the top image with the Rectangular Marquee tool.

-Next go to Edit>Preset Manager... and from the Preset Type dropdown menu choose Patterns then on the left side click on the load... button and select vugrid.pat

-Next using the Paint Bucket Tool fill in the selection with the pattern I have squared in red.

-If you have any incomplete rectangles like in the image here, erase them.

-Now Invert the colors on the vugrid layer by going to Image>Adjustmetns>Invert or hit Ctrl + I

-Then Change the blendmode of the vugrid layer by selecting Overlay from the dropdown menu in the layer palette.

-Finally make a selection like this with the Rectangular Marquee Tool

-Now click on the Channels Tab in the Layers Pallete and hit the Save selection as a channel button.

-Next rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise by going to Image>Rotate Canvas>Rotate 90 Degrees CW

-Now go to Filter>Stylize>Wind... use these settings:

Method: Wind

Direction: From the Left

-Then hit ctrl + F to repeat the filter.

-Adjust the Brightness/Contrast by going to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast... and use these settings.

-Zoom out from the image and stretch it out with the Move Tool, like this:

-Now do the same thing on 3 more channels. The idea is that we have a multitude of peaks to switch around to.

Here are my 4 channels.

-Now Hold Ctrl and click on one of your wave channels (the ones we just made) to load its selection. Then go back to the Layers Palette and make a new layer, name it F1. Finally fill the selection with black.

-Repeat this step for each of your "wave channels", name the layers F1, F2, F3 and F4.

-Now hold ctrl and click on your vugrid layer to load its selection. Then go to Select>Inverse to invert the selection.

-Next go to each of the F1, F2 etc... layers and hit backspace. So you delete all the black that doesn't fit in the vugrid shape.

-When your finished your image should look something like this.

-Now we switch over to image ready hit this button on the toolbar to switch over.

-In image ready find the Animation Palette (if you can't find it go to Window>Animation)

-Make 4 new frames by hitting the duplicate frame button.

-In the first frame make F1 visible and F2, F3 and F4 invisible. In the second frame make F2 visible and F1, F3 and F4 visible. etc...

-The image on the right has all the layers you want visible broken down for each frame.

-After you have all the layer visibilities right. Select frame 5 and hit the Tween button:

use these settings.

-Now select frame 4 and hit Tween, same settings.

-Then select frame 3 and hit Tween, same settings.

-Finally select frame 2 and hit Tween, same settings.

-To see if it came out right you can hit the preview button . If everything is right, it should look like this:

-To save go to File>Save Optimized as...

-Discuss this tutorial in the Forum.
